"The Intelligence System on the Internet". This may sound like a contradiction in terms, but it really isn’t. We believe that our profile and actions should be discrete, but that our mission and work should be transparent and accountable.
SIRP is responsible for providing support to policymakers. It works to anticipate and evaluate the different threats to the national interests: internal and external security, independence, as well as the unity and integrity of the Portuguese State.
SIRP’s activity and its possible impact on citizens’ rights and freedom means that it must have suitable oversight mechanisms. Accordingly, SIRP is monitored by a Supervisory Board: the Oversight Council whose members are elected by the Portuguese Parliament.
Through the work carried out by SIED and SIS, the SIRP’s intelligence products contribute to the protection, safeguard and defense of the Portuguese national interests.
